Rendered
Founded in Blackpool, 2021 by guitarist/vocalist Dale Ball and bassist/guitarist Chris Phelan (The Karma), later joined by multi-instrumentalist/producer James Routh (Sonic Boom Six, Screech Bats, Askari) and percussionist Craig Bunney (The Getsettes), Rendered forge tough-but-tender soundscapes of concrete blues and tranquil anaesthesia – a dense, layered approach with intricate guitars and emotive choruses. Their music hearkens back to the harder edges of the mid-90s, whilst offering a fresh, and, at times, harrowing perspective on growing older in a gritty northern town.
They released their first single ‘These Times’ in September 2021, a heartfelt dedication to Dale’s stepson who had been struggling with mental health issues. It’s a haunting ballad with creeping undertones that burst into heart-wrenching melodies – a contrast of lightness and pain that would bring a tear to the flintiest eye.
With new single ‘Must be the Enemy!’ set for release in February 14th, a debut album to follow, and a run of shows in Spring, the band is looking forward to greater exposure and exploring new avenues.
The Band
Chris Phelan
Guitar/Backing Vocals
A fun character, who wears his heart on his sleeve! His melodic guitar picking yet, rocking riffs adds the hard edge sound to the music. Chris has a good eye for film, injecting a cinematic approach to the bands videos, an extremely consistent player!
James Routh
Guitar/Bass/Backing Vocals/Producer
A truly talented musician and sound engineer, James adds sheen to the sound with his nifty engineering skills, whilst adding his own tasty guitar licks. His experience is clear and attention to detail is second to none.
Craig Bunney
Drummer/Backing Vocals
A heavy hitting drummer with distinct style, influenced by the British 90s music scene, Craig adds a unique touch and groove to the overall feel of the songs and certainly is a super animated energetic performer!
Dale Ball
Vocals/Guitar/Co-Producer
Dale writes his lyrics from the heart and melodies to last, whilst adding his own musical input. A gifted individual with a creative mind, adding obsessive amounts of intricacy to the music production and music videos.
Must Be The Enemy!
Well they say it’s in my mind you know
And I’ll stand in the mirror staring into my soul
As I ask what’s real in this world we’re shown
Life is an illusion we just know what we’re told
So before I face the music I’m contemplating
Cos’ out there their vibe is low
As my heart keeps on telling me they’re losing control
Paranoia’s what they tell me I’ve got
Well this is real to me and it won’t stop
(Must Be The Enemy!)
Paranoia’s what they tell me I got
Well this is news to me and maybe I’m not gonna stop and so
Those silly oik’s think they’re being smart
All sniggering at me whilst they’re staring from the dark side
As I walk through this stench I’ll hold it up and I’ll hide
Or might just shove my fist right down your throat whilst your alive
And what is faith while life’s crumbling at your feet
You wanna feel my pain well I’m about to blow
Paranoia’s what they tell me I got
Well this is real to me and it won’t stop now
(Must Be The Enemy!)
Paranoia’s what they tell me I got
Well this is news to me and maybe I’m never gonna stop
Cos’ no, I ain’t ever gonna stop
We know it’s real
All the lies we’ve been sold
I mean it they’ll take from you what’s inside
It’s fear control and now is their fall
As the sheep are still following watch them go
Paranoia’s what they tell me I got
Well this is real to me and it won’t stop now
(Must be the enemy!)
Paranoia’s what they tell me I got
Surely it’s fake news to us all and we’re not gonna fall for it
Paranoia’s what they tell me I got
They’re trying to pull on the strings but
I’m the cream of the crop now now
(Must be the enemy!)
Shove another cartridge into the slot
This game is dead they’ve been crushing your dreams but now I’m stood at the top
(Said)
Huh
Say it
Said
Say It
I mean it they’ll take from you what’s inside
(Must be the enemy!)
